The short version
- EditAI edits your videos on your iPhone. Your clips are not uploaded to make your edit.
- Some features go online, like posting to TikTok or chat edits. Only what that feature needs is sent, and uploaded videos are deleted automatically.
- We don't sell your personal information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your videos to train AI models.
- You can download or delete your data at any time. See Your data.
This Privacy Policy explains how the EditAI iPhone app and the website at editaiapp.com (together, the “Service”) handle your information. EditAI is part of the VidLabs family of products, and your EditAI account is a VidLabs account. “We”, “us” and “our” mean the team that operates EditAI and VidLabs.
If you use VidLabs itself (for example the website at tryvidlabs.com), the VidLabs Privacy Policy applies to that use. This policy covers what’s specific to EditAI.
1. The short version
EditAI is built to work on your iPhone. Importing, transcribing, cutting, captions, hooks, zooms, the violation check and rendering all run on your device, and most of the app works offline. Your clips and projects stay on your iPhone unless you choose a feature that needs to send something, like posting to TikTok.
When you do use an online feature, we send only what that feature needs, we keep it only as long as that feature needs it, and we tell you below exactly what that is.
2. Information that stays on your iPhone
The following is created and stored on your iPhone and is not sent to us:
- the videos, photos and audio you record or import, and EditAI’s working copies of them;
- your projects and edits, including transcripts, cuts, captions, hooks, zooms, overlays, music choices and the edit plan;
- scripts, saved teleprompter scripts and slideshows you create;
- screenshots, product details, music tracks and overlay folders you add to the app;
- your profile name and photo in the app, your preferences, and your monthly AI edit count;
- the result of any on-device check, such as the TikTok Shop violation check.
To do this on the device, EditAI uses Apple technologies on your iPhone, such as on-device speech recognition, Vision (for example to find you in the frame for green screen) and, where available, Apple Intelligence.
Permissions. EditAI asks for access only when a feature needs it, and you can change any of these in iPhone Settings:
- Camera and Microphone, to record video and voiceovers. Takes stay on your iPhone.
- Photos, to import your clips and save finished videos. Film sessions need Full Access so EditAI can find the clips you film in the Camera app during a session.
- Speech Recognition, to transcribe your videos for captions, hooks and cuts, in English and Spanish.
- Notifications and Live Activities, to tell you when edits are ready and to show a film session in progress.
- Sensitive Content Analysis, if you’ve turned it on in iPhone Settings. EditAI can use Apple’s on-device analysis to check a few frames of your footage for nudity or graphic content before you post. The result stays on your iPhone.
Apple’s speech service. If your iPhone can’t transcribe a language on the device, EditAI can use Apple’s speech recognition service instead. In that case the audio is sent to Apple and handled under Apple’s Privacy Policy. This is on by default so captions keep working, and you can turn it off in the app’s privacy settings. When it’s off, transcription only happens on your iPhone.
Backups. If you use iCloud or computer backups, your iPhone may include EditAI’s data in those backups under Apple’s terms. We don’t have access to them.
3. Your account
An account is optional: editing works without one. You need a VidLabs account for features that go online, such as posting to TikTok, chat edits, Edit like this links, product search and contacting support from inside the app. Signing in never uploads your videos.
You can create an account in the app or on our website. When you create or use an account, we process your email address, your name and handle (if you give them), your password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), your account ID, and sign-in and security information such as when and how you signed in. Accounts are created, reset and deleted through VidLabs, so the same account works across VidLabs products.
Signing in with Google. If you sign in with Google (in the app or on our website), EditAI uses your Google name, email address and profile photo only to create your account and sign you in. Google may also share your Google account ID, which we use only to recognize you when you sign in again. We don’t use this information for ads, we don’t sell it, and we only share it with the service providers that run sign-in for us. It’s kept with your account and deleted when you delete your account (see section 10). EditAI doesn’t ask for access to anything else in your Google account, such as Gmail, Drive or your contacts. Google’s privacy policy applies to what Google does with your information.
Phone verification for free trials. Before a free trial or subscription starts on our website, we ask you to verify a mobile number with a code sent by text message (the same check VidLabs uses). Twilio sends the text. We keep a one-way hash of the number and its last four digits, linked to your account, so each number can start only one free trial. We don’t use your number for marketing.
4. Subscriptions and payments
You can subscribe in the app, where Apple sells and bills the subscription through the App Store, or on our website, where payments are processed by Stripe. Apple or Stripe handles your payment details. We never see or store your full card number.
To unlock your plan across the app, the website and our servers, we store information about your subscription, linked to your account:
- From Apple: the transaction ID, the product and plan, whether you’re in a free trial, its status, expiry date and renewal setting, and technical details Apple sends with its subscription notifications.
- From Stripe: your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, the plan and billing period, its status, trial and renewal dates, whether it’s set to cancel, and the amounts paid. Stripe collects your payment details, and your billing country or address if needed for taxes, under its own privacy policy.
We use this to give you the features of your plan (for example, chat edits check that your plan includes them), to send receipts and billing emails, to pay affiliate commissions, to handle support requests and to prevent fraud.
If you enter a promo or creator code on our website, we record it with your subscription. If you cancel a website plan, we ask why (you can add a comment) to improve EditAI, and we may send you one email about a week later with an offer to come back.
5. Features that go online
This section lists everything EditAI can send off your iPhone, and only when you use that feature.
Posting, scheduling and drafts on TikTok
To post from EditAI, you connect your TikTok account through VidLabs using TikTok’s official login. With your permission, VidLabs stores the access tokens TikTok provides so it can publish for you, and reads the basic TikTok account information needed to post (such as your display name, profile picture and the posting options TikTok allows for your account).
When you post, schedule a post or send a video to your TikTok drafts:
- the video (or photos, for photo posts) is uploaded to VidLabs’ secure storage so it can be delivered to TikTok;
- we store the post details you choose: caption, cover choice, scheduled time and time zone, privacy setting, whether comments, Duets and Stitches are allowed, content disclosure settings (such as branded or promotional content), and the post’s status and link;
- uploaded files are deleted automatically, 48 hours after the post is published, canceled or needs your attention, or 24 hours after upload if they were never attached to a post;
- the post details stay in your account so you can see and manage your scheduled and past posts, until you delete them or your account.
Once a video is on TikTok, TikTok’s own terms and privacy policy apply to it. You can sign out of VidLabs in EditAI at any time, and disconnect TikTok in VidLabs or in TikTok’s settings (see Your data).
Share to TikTok or Instagram. If you use the share buttons instead, EditAI hands the video to the TikTok or Instagram app on your iPhone. It doesn’t pass through our servers.
Chat edits
When you ask EditAI to change an edit in words (a Pro feature), the app sends your request, the transcript with its timings, the current edit plan and a few small still frames from your video to VidLabs. VidLabs passes the request through our AI gateway provider to Anthropic (the maker of Claude), which returns the change. We don’t store the content of your chats. We keep a record of how much you used (the model and the amount of text processed) to apply fair-use limits and manage costs.
Your own Claude key. If you add your own Anthropic API key in the app, those requests go directly from your iPhone to Anthropic under your own Anthropic account and terms. The key is kept in your iPhone’s Keychain. We never receive it. When you use it for the script writer, only your idea and product details are sent.
Edit like this and Learn my style
When you paste a link to a video you want your edit to follow, the link is sent to VidLabs. VidLabs retrieves that public video (using a service that fetches public TikTok videos) and analyzes it with AI, including Google’s Gemini models through our AI gateway provider, to understand its structure, pacing, on-screen text and transcript. Analyses of public videos are cached and can be reused when anyone analyzes the same video. The link and the result are also saved to the history in your VidLabs account.
When you use Learn my style with a TikTok profile, the profile link or handle is sent to VidLabs to fetch that profile’s list of public videos, which is cached for up to 6 hours.
Only paste links to content you’re allowed to use this way (see our Terms).
TikTok Shop products
If you’ve connected TikTok Shop in VidLabs, EditAI can show products from your showcase and let you search products to use in hooks, captions and overlays. Your searches and the products you look up are sent to VidLabs, which gets the product details from TikTok.
Edit requests from AI assistants
If you connect an AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your VidLabs account, it can queue edit instructions for you. EditAI picks them up when you open the app. The instruction, its settings, its status and a short result (such as the project title) are stored in your account. Assistants can’t post anything for you.
Cloud sync
If you turn on cloud sync, EditAI stores a summary of each edit in your account so it can be restored: the project title, status, length, aspect ratio and edit plan. Your video files are not uploaded for sync. Cloud sync is off unless you turn it on.
Referral codes and the affiliate program
If you subscribe with an affiliate’s referral code or link, we record the referral with your subscription so the affiliate can be credited and paid. Affiliates only get what’s needed for that, such as whether a referred subscription is active. They never see your videos or projects. If you join the affiliate program yourself, we process your application, referral activity, the links, view counts and any screenshots of videos you submit for the Creator Partner reward, and payout details (through PayPal or Stripe Connect) to run it.
Support and feedback
If you contact us from the app, we receive your message, the subject you choose, your account ID and email, and the app version and platform. If you use the contact form on our website or email us, we receive what you send (such as your name, email and message).
6. App analytics and notifications
To understand how EditAI is used, fix problems and plan improvements, the app may send us:
- Device and app details: a random install ID created by the app, the app version, iOS version, iPhone model, language, region and time zone, your plan and whether you’re in a trial, and when the app was first and last used.
- Usage events: which features and screens are used and when, whether actions succeed or fail, and error details. These events describe how the app is used. They don’t include your videos, audio or transcripts.
- Onboarding answers: the answers you choose when you first set up the app, such as what kind of videos you make.
Push notifications. If you allow notifications, we store your device’s notification token with your language, time zone and app version. We use it to send notifications you’ve turned on (for example when an edit is ready or a scheduled post goes live) and occasional announcements about EditAI, which we may target by plan, language, app version or when you last used the app. You can turn notifications off at any time in iPhone Settings or in the app.
EditAI doesn’t include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and it doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps and websites. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iPhone Settings, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us under its own terms.
7. Our website
The website at editaiapp.com is hosted by Cloudflare. Like most websites, our hosting provider processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and when, to deliver the site and protect it against abuse.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t follow you across other sites and gives us totals only, such as views per page, referring sites, browsers, device types and countries.
The website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. It remembers your light or dark mode choice in your browser’s local storage, which never leaves your device. The contact form opens your own email app with your message addressed to support@editaiapp.com, and we receive it when you send that email. Our website checks the form first but doesn’t store or forward it.
Accounts on the website. When you sign in or create an account on the website, your browser talks directly to our authentication provider (Supabase) and our servers, and keeps your sign-in session in its local storage so you stay signed in (or only until you close the tab, if you turn off Remember me). Signing out removes it. On the sign-in pages, Continue with Google loads Google’s sign-in button from accounts.google.com. When you pay, you finish on Stripe’s secure checkout page, and you manage billing on Stripe’s billing page.
Affiliate links. If you arrive through a link with an affiliate code (for example editaiapp.com/pricing?ref=CODE), the website remembers the code in your browser for 60 days and links it to your account when you sign up or subscribe, so the affiliate can be credited.
8. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- provide EditAI’s features, including the online features you choose;
- run your account and subscription, and give you the features of your plan;
- post, schedule and deliver videos where you ask us to;
- respond to your support requests and feedback;
- send notifications you’ve allowed and important service messages;
- keep the Service secure, apply fair-use limits and prevent fraud and abuse;
- understand how the app is used, fix bugs and improve EditAI;
- comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don’t use your videos, audio, transcripts or chats to train AI models.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar laws). Where these laws apply, we process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), based on our legitimate interests (such as security, fraud prevention, understanding usage and improving EditAI, balanced against your rights), with your consent (such as notifications or permissions you grant, which you can withdraw at any time), and to meet legal obligations.
9. Who we share information with
We share information only as described in this policy:
- Service providers that process data for us under contracts: cloud hosting, database, storage and authentication providers (such as Cloudflare and Supabase), our AI gateway provider and the AI providers behind it (such as Anthropic and Google), a service that retrieves public videos from links you provide, and email delivery providers. They may use the data only to provide their services to us.
- Apple, for subscriptions and, if enabled, its speech recognition service.
- Stripe, to process subscriptions bought on our website, and Twilio, to text the phone verification code.
- Google, when you choose Continue with Google.
- TikTok, when you connect your account, post, schedule, send to drafts or use TikTok Shop features.
- Other VidLabs products, because your account and related data are shared across VidLabs products you use.
- Legal and safety: when we believe in good faith that it’s required by law, legal process or a government request, or needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us.
- Business changes: if we’re involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that deal, subject to this policy.
- With your consent or at your direction.
10. How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Clips, projects and everything else on your iPhone | Until you delete them or delete the app |
| Videos and photos uploaded for TikTok posting | Deleted automatically 48 hours after posting (or cancellation), or 24 hours after upload if never used |
| Scheduled and past post details | Until you delete them or your account |
| Chat content | Not stored by us |
| Chat usage records (amount of use) | While your account exists, to apply limits and manage costs |
| Edit like this history | Until you delete it or your account. Cached analyses of public videos may be kept longer. |
| Account, subscription, edit requests, cloud sync and onboarding answers | Until you delete your account |
| Verified phone number (a one-way hash and the last four digits) | Until you delete your account |
| Website payment records (amounts, dates, Stripe IDs) | While your account exists, then as long as tax, accounting and legal rules require |
| Notification tokens | Until you turn notifications off, the token stops working or you delete your account |
| Device and usage analytics | Unlinked from your account when you delete it, then kept only in a form that isn’t tied to your account |
| Support messages | As long as needed to help you and keep a record of the request |
| Website server logs | Kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and reliability |
| Website visit statistics | Totals only, not linked to you, kept by Cloudflare Web Analytics |
When you delete your account, we keep a limited record (such as your email address, name, handle, plan and the reason you gave for leaving) for 90 days, to handle support and legal questions and prevent fraud and abuse, and then delete it. We also keep information when we’re required to by law or need it to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. Deleted data may remain in secure backups for a limited time before it’s overwritten.
11. Security
We protect your information with measures such as encryption in transit, access controls and keeping sensitive items like API keys in your iPhone’s Keychain. Keeping editing on your device also means less of your data ever reaches a server. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If you think your account has been compromised, contact us right away.
12. Your choices and rights
In the app and on your iPhone you can:
- change or revoke permissions in iPhone Settings;
- turn Apple’s speech service fallback on or off;
- turn notifications off;
- disconnect TikTok;
- delete projects, clips and saved items at any time;
- download a copy of your in-app data, or delete your account. See Your data for step-by-step instructions.
Your privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, get a copy of it in a portable format, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time. If you’re in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
California and other US states. Residents of California and some other states have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and to access, correct and delete it. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don’t use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would give you the right to limit it. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising your rights. The categories of personal information we collect are described in sections 3 to 7: identifiers (such as email and account ID), commercial information (subscription details), internet or other electronic activity (app usage and website logs), audio or visual information (only when you use a feature that sends it, as described above), and inferences we draw about how you use the app.
To make a request, use the steps on Your data, use our contact form or email support@editaiapp.com. We’ll verify your request, usually by confirming it comes from the email address on your account, and respond within the time the law requires. You can use an authorized agent where the law allows. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.
13. Children
EditAI isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country, if higher). If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
14. International transfers
We and our service providers may process your information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from yours. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, for these transfers.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as EditAI changes. If we make material changes, we’ll let you know in the app, by email or on this page before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version.
16. Contact us
